Lebanese environmental services company Averda has purchased Sharjah-based Al-Ghadeer Waste Collections Company.

Averda was formed in 1968 and plans to expand in Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Morocco and Algeria.

Al-Ghadeer collects and transports municipal solid waste for Sharjah’s industrial areas, ports, free zones, airports and other private and public organisations.

Al-Ghadeer will be headed by Alan Thomson, who has moved to Dubai from Scotland and was previously responsible for waste management performance at the BP/INEOS refinery at Grangemouth.

Averda specialises in cleaning, collecting, treating, recycling and neutralising liquid and solid waste.

Al-Ghadeer was created in 2006.
