Award imminent for enabling package on Beirut's other marina tower

A contract award is expected by mid-May for the enabling package on the 33-storey lot 1421 residential tower development at Beirut Marina, according to project sources.

Up to six contractors are understood to have bid for the work, including France's Intrafor/Bouygueswith the local Soltravo, Germany's Bauerand the local Edrafor. The concrete tower block will have five or six basement levels and the enabling package design is understood to involve a secant pile wall to shore up the 20-25-metre deep excavation, which reaches around 15 metres below sea level.

The construction package for the concrete superstructure has yet to be agreed, but project sources say they expect it to go to local contractor Societe d'Entreprises Abdel Rahman Hourie,whose owner is a shareholder in the development. Other shareholders are understood to include Saudi Arabian businessmen. The local Rafik el-Khoury & Partnersis the executive engineer on the development and Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners), also local, is the enabling works design engineer.
