Baghdad blast kills ten

A large explosion at a police station in Baghdad's mainly Shia Sadr area killed at least ten people on 9 October. Three policemen, five civilians and two bombers were killed in the in the suicide attack. The Iraqi police force, made up of local recruits, has become a regular target for militant attacks

In a second incident, Spanish diplomat Jose Antonio Bernal, was shot dead in the capital.

Late on 8 October, a UK army base was bombed in a suspected mortar attack. There were no casualties in the incident, and little damage was caused (MEED 7:10:03).
