Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority has awarded several contracts as part of its 2011-2007 transmission network expansion programme.

The local Kooheji Contractors has won a BD12m ($32m) contract for the installation of 220kV transmission lines and associated civil works.

A second local contractor, Ahmed Mansoor al-Ali Company, has won a BD6.7m contract covering civil works for a group of 220kV substations.

Finally, Al-Hoty Analytical Services, also local, has won a BD29,830 deal for a site study ahead of civil works as part of the 66kV and 200kV network expansion programme.

There are now 16 220kV substations operating in the country. The 2007-2011 transmission network upgrade programme will expand the network by adding 11 more 220kV substations and approximately 40 more 66kV substations.
