Energy minister says deeper wells are needed to increase gas production
Bahrain is to dig deeper wells in order to increase the kingdom’s gas production.
Energy Minister Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza told Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) that US-based Occidental Petroleum Corporation has signed a seven-year agreement for gas exploration and will start drilling operations shortly.
The minister said Bahrain produces about 1.3 billion cubic feet-a-day (cf/d) on average, but hopes to reach 2.7 billion cf/d in the peak summer months by 2024.
Another solution for Manama is to import gas from big producers, including Qatar, Iran, Russia or Turkmenistan.
