Bahrain sewage plant action expected in October

09 September 2008
Developers shortlisted for the $150m Muharraq sewage plant in Bahrain expect to be asked to submit requests for proposals (RFP) from early October.

The government of Bahrain and HSBC, which is acting as financial adviser, are currently working through the list of interested parties which submitted requests for qualifications (RFQs) by the closing date of 28 August.

An award of the contract is expected to be made in the first quarter of 2009.

The project involves the design, financing, construction and operation of a greenfield sewage treatment plant in Muharraq, with initial capacity of up to 100,000 cubic metres a day.

The project is one of the first examples of privatised wastewater in the region.
