Qatari real estate developer to issue tender documents by end of November
Barwa Real Estate Company, a listed Qatari developer, is inviting contractors to express interest in the QR750m ($208m) construction contract on its Barwa City development in Doha.
The contract covers infrastructure, such as roads, electricity substations and water pumping stations; and amenities, such as schools, a health club and a shopping centre. The total built-up area is about 97,000 square metres.
The real estate developer plans to issue tender documents by the end of November, receive bids in December, and make an award in January next year. Barwa expects that the winning contractor will complete the infrastructure works in mid 2011.
In May 2007, Bilfinger Berger won a QR4.9bn building contract at Barwa City. The German contractor will build a residential compound with 6,000 housing units by May 2010 (MEED 4:5:09). The design consultant is US-based Aecom. Qatar Project Management Company is the project manager.
In late September, Barwa selected France’s Bouygues for the QR5bn contract to build the Barwa Financial District.
Bouygues will build nine high-rise office towers between 22 and 52 storeys in height, a five-star hotel, a retail shopping centre, a conference centre, and 5,000 parking spaces in the West Bay area of Doha.
The total built-up area is about 695,000 square metres.
