Bechtel reviews water bids

05 December 2003
The US' Bechtel is evaluating bids from 10 international companies for the contract to rehabilitate water treatment and supply infrastructure in the south.

The project covers the restoration of 15 treatment plants, pumping stations and 120 kilometres of pipeline. Bids are also due in mid-December for the contract to improve the flow-rate of a 60-kilometre-long stretch of canal, which transports water from the Euphrates to a central treatment plant located near Basra International Airport.

Bechtel expects to have completed the restoration of the water treatment system in Basra by September 2004 (MEED 7:11:03).
