The US' Bechtel has been awarded a contract by Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel) to establish a dedicated project management operation to oversee the rollout of telecoms and broadcasting infrastructure for the Doha Asian Games in December 2006. A masterplan for the necessary infrastructure was drawn up for Q-Tel by Korea Telecom. Bechtel's contract was put in place before the West Asian Games, held in Doha last December, in order to test the system and will run until after the Doha Asian Games. The contract is Bechtel's first major regional telecoms award since the mid-1990s when it worked on the TEP-6 project in Saudi Arabia.
