Bechtel wins engineering contract on Ruwais refinery

21 January 2008

The US’ Bechtel has been selected for the front-end engineering and design contract on the grassroots expansion of the Ruwais refinery, planned by Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer).

Bechtel beat competition from the US’ Foster Wheeler and Paris-based Technip to win the 14-month contract. It covers basic engineering of the facility, which will be able to process an additional 400,000 barrels a day of crude (MEED 31:8:07).

The US’ Fluor Corporation is the project management consultant.

Takreer is expected to tender the first engineering, procurement and construction contracts covering the expansion later this year or in early 2009.
