Under the estimated $48 million contract, Belleli will build 13 storage tanks with total capacity of 300,000-400,000 cubic metres. The terminal will provide storage for mogas (motor gasoline) and facilities for the blending and distribution of jet fuel. The facilities will take 18 months to complete. Belleli won the job against competition from US-based Chicago Bridge & Ironand Punj Lloydand Larsen & Toubro, both of India.
The UK's Mott MacDonaldprepared the project's front-end engineering and design (FEED) package. A second-phase development is also envisaged on the 100,000-square-metre site.
Emarat signed in January 2003 a heads of agreement with the UK's BPand Trafiguraof the Netherlands to build the new facility (MEED 17:1:03). Under the terms of the deal, Emarat is expected to take a 60 per cent stake in the new company which will operate the complex. Trafigura and BP will each take a 20 per cent stake in the venture.
