Bemco secures more power work

The local Arabian Bemco Contractinghas been awarded the contract to carry out the proposed 120-MW expansion of the Tabuk power plant. The company and the client, Saudi Electric Company (SEC), are expected to sign the contract at the end of May, pending the completion of clarification talks (MEED 28:3:03).

Bemco earlier this year submitted the low bid of SR 272 million ($72.5 million) for the contract, which covers the construction of two new gas turbines. Other bidders for the contract were the National Construction Company (NCC)and Al-Toukhi Contracting- both local, and Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC).

Bemco is also in line to win two local substation projects. The company is the low bidder for the contract to build 110/13.8-kV substations at Saudia City in Jeddah and in Zahra in Mecca. Both contracts are expected to be signed within weeks.

On a third substation project, the installation of a 380-kV unit in Jeddah as part of the PP3 power plant expansion project, Germany's Siemensis the low bidder at SR 148 million ($39.5 million). A total of seven companies are competing for this contract (MEED 2:5:03).

The projects are part of a broad capacity enhancement programme now being pursued by SEC across the kingdom.
