Beverly Hills contract set for award

A contract is expected to be awarded by the end of October for zones 4A and 4B of the 2,500-acre Beverly Hills residential project west of Cairo, contractors say. Bidders for the estimated $20 million project are understood to include Hassan Allam Sons Company, Kolaly, Industrial Construction & Engineering Company (SIAC) - all local - and South Korea's Samsung Construction. The client is 6 October Development & Investment Company (Sodic).

Both zones 4A and 4B are residential developments; 4A is to include 350 villas and 4B 180 four-storey apartments in eightunit blocks. This fourth phase is due to be completed in 2002.

Turner Steiner International of the US is co-ordinating work on the entire development which also includes the residential zones 3A and 3B, commercial zone 1A and retail zone 3C. 3A encompasses 350 villas and 3B consists of 156 fourstorey apartments housed in eight-unit blocks. Both 3A and 3B are due for completion in the fourth quarter of 2001. Future plans are understood to incorporate the development of zone 1A, a business park consisting of 28 five-storey commercial buildings, and zone 3C, the Dahshur Showrooms, which is to include 50 twostorey retail units.

Work started on Beverly Hills in 1999. Sodic is a listed company (MEED 14:5:99).
