Bharat Heavy wins Syria power contract

India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has won a turnkey contract to build a 400MW extension to the Tishreen thermal power plant in Syria - its first ever contract in the country’s power sector.

The contract covers the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the plant. The project will be carried out over 33 months.

Valued at over $485m, the project is the largest single contract ever won by BHEL overseas.

The Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation and Transmission at the Ministry of Electricity is the client.
