Bidders line up for Al-Raha

Evaluation of bids is under way at ALDAR Properties for the dredging and reclamation package on the multi-billion dollar Al-Raha beach development in Abu Dhabi. An award is expected by December (MEED 2:9:05).

Bidders for the estimated $200 million-250 million contract include Dredging International and Jan De Nul, both of Belgium, Van Oord Gulfand Royal Boskalis Westminster, both of the Netherlands, and the local National Marine Dredging Company. Eight companies were prequalified to bid (MEED 29:4:05).

The contract covers the dredging of about 40 million cubic metres of material along eight kilometres of the existing channel at Al-Raha and design and construction of revetments. The Al-Raha beach project is planned to become a new city district with an area of 12 million square metres, of which 6.8 million square metres will be reclaimed. Australia's Malone Buchan Laird & Bawdenhas prepared the concept design; UK-based Maunsellis the infrastructure design and construction management consultant. US-based Parsons Brinckerhoffis the project manager.
