Bidders line up for Mesaieed NGL upgrade work

19 December 2003
Qatar Petroleum (QP) has invited engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) bids by 1 February for the rich associated gas (RAG) utilisation/flare mitigation project. The contract focuses on the natural gas liquids (NGL) plants at Mesaieed.

Prequalifiers for the contract include Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC), Spain's Dragados, Sharjah-based Petrofac International, US-based Stone & Webster, Paris-based Technipand Spain's Tecnicas Reunidas. Several of the prequalifiers are expected to join forces to bid for the contract.

The contract involves upgrading the NGL plants with the objective of handling rich associated gas from Dukhan and offshore fields. It also calls for the relocation of flares serving the NGL-1, NGL-2 and NGL-3 plants.

Originally, QP had planned to implement the RAG utilisation and flare mitigation projects separately, with the RAG utilisation tender covering related work in the Dukhan field and offshore as well at the NGL plant upgrade. However, QP subsequently decided to combine the RAG utilisation work at Mesaieed and the flare mitigation scheme into one tender. It is expected that the Dukhan and offshore elements will be tendered at a later date.
