Bidders line up for RAK desal plant

04 October 2002

Bids are due to be returned by 16 November for a contract to install a new desalination unit in Ras al-Khaimah emirate. The proposed plant will have a capacity of 3 million-5 million gallons a day (g/d) and will use multi-effect distillation (MED) technology.

The client, Federal Electricity & Water Authority, has requested bidders for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to submit two sets of prices. The first covers the supply and installation of a single unit of 3 million-5 million g/d capacity. The second offer will be for two units with a total capacity of 6 million-10 million g/d.

The prospective bidders for the 20-month EPC contract include the UK's Weir Westgarth, France's Sidem and Sasakura Engineering Company and Hitachi Zosen, both of Japan.
