Bidding kicks off on gas development project

Bids are due to be submitted on 22 January for the gas pipeline package on the block 9 development project in northern Oman. Prequalifiers for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract are understood to include India's Dodsal; Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC)with Italy's Saipem; Canada's SNC Lavalin; The Oman Construction Company (TOCO); and the local Galfar Engineering & Construction. Occidental Petroleum Corporationof the US is the client (MEED 13:12:02; 8:11:02).

The scope of works covers the installation of 87 kilometres of 16-inch-diameter and 60 kilometres of 12-inch-diameter pipeline, to tie the Safaa field into the network of Oman Gas Company (OGC). Australia's Worleyhas completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies.

Contractors have also been invited to prequalify by 12 January for the main facilities package, which covers the development of production and processing facilities with the capacity to handle between 120 million-150 million cubic feet a day of gas. The gas, which is to be sold to the Ministry of Oil & Gas, is intended to augment supplies earmarked for export to the UAE .
