Bids due for Al-Jazair

26 July 2002

Ten developers are due to submit proposals by 31 July for the project to finance, design, build and operate a beach resort at Al-Jazair, located on the southeast of the island. The client, the Economic Development Board (EDB), plans to shortlist two developers, which will then be invited to submit in November final proposals including financing plans and a detailed schedule for the design and construction of the scheme. The selected developer will then build and operate the resort on a 35-year lease.

Al-Jazair is one of a number of projects being promoted by the EDB. Others include the proposed grand prix race circuit at Sakhir and the Amwaj island resort. The board has also been handed responsibility to develop a new hospital near Manama with the Saudi German Hospitals Group.
