The Works Ministry has invited 12 companies to bid by 14 October for the contract to build a sewage treatment plant to serve the Khalifa bin Salman port and industrial area on Hidd island. The plant will consist of primary and tertiary units capable of treating effluent suitable for the irrigation of landscaped areas.
The scope of works entails the supply and installation of effluent screening systems; grit and oil removal facilities; balancing tanks; secondary treatment units; pumping and sewage lift stations; emergency outfall; and civil works including roads and associated buildings. The plant will have the capacity to treat on average 2,325 cubic metres a day of effluent at a peak flow rate of 387.5 cubic metres an hour, with an organic loading of 698 kilos a day.
