Saudi Electricity Company delays project north of Jeddah
Saudi Electricity Company has delayed the bid deadline for a planned expansion of its Rabigh 6 power plant until 31 October.
Bids were originally due on 13 July.
The Rabigh 6 project, 150 kilometres north of Jeddah, will have capacity of 2,400-2,800MW.
Potential bidders for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract include France’s Alstom; Germany’s Siemens; the local Arabian Bemco and National Contracting Company; South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and Hyundai Heavy Industries; and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Marubeni Corporation.
Saudi Electricity retendered the project after it received only two bids: one from Hyundai Heavy Industries; and the other from a team of Arabian Bemco and Hanwha Engineering & Construction, another South Korean contractor, in August 2008 (MEED 15:5:09).
