Eight firms line up for consultancy contract

Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) has received eight bids for the consultancy contract on its planned 400kV power transmission project.

EWA has only opened technical bids so far. They were submitted by Ireland’s ESB International, Canada’s SNC Lavalin, the UK’s Mott MacDonald and London Power Associates, the US’ Parsons Brinckerhoff, Germany’s Lahmeyer International, Serbia’s Energoprojekt Entel and Finland’s Poyry Energy.

The winning bidder will complete a feasibility study and define the scale of the the new 400kV network. The consultant will also prepare tender documents for the engineering, procurement and construction contract, evaluate bids, and supervise construction on the scheme.

The project involves the construction of two 400kV substations and two 200-220kV transformers, and is part of Bahrain’s 2009-2013 transmission development programme.
