Bids in for Capital Towers project

Eight contractors submitted bids by 3 April to the local Capital Investment Internationalfor the main construction works package on the Capital Towers project to be built on Sheikh Zayed highway in Dubai. An award on the estimated AED 400 million ($109 million) mixed-use development is expected in mid-May (MEED 26:3:04).

The package calls for the construction of two towers on a large podium, which will accommodate retail outlets, a ballroom, meeting rooms and a health club. The first tower, of about 32 storeys, will house a five-star hotel, with 160 guestrooms, and furnished apartments. The 40-storey second tower will contain 250 unfurnished apartments. The contract will also entail the construction of a separate multi-storey car park. The fast-track project will take about 20 months to complete. Project completion is set for November 2005.

The consultant/architect is the UK's RMJM; the project manager is the US' Hill International(MEED 27:2:04).
