Bids in for Dukhan and Mesaieed upgrade retender

17 February 2010

Contract award is expected in March

Contractors have submitted amended prices for the estimated $1bn contract to upgrade Qatar Petroleum’s (QP) gas facilities at Dukhan and Mesaieed.

State-owned QP will open the bids on 15 February, and contractors hope to hear news of the low bidder by 20 February, a source close to the project tells MEED.

“A contract award should follow by the end of March,” the source adds.

The company completed technical discussions with four contractors on 4 February, after introducing a number of cost savings into the project.

Bidding firms include France’s Technip, Italy’s Saipem, the UK’s Petrofac and a group of Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company with the US’ Black & Veatch.

Commercial bids for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract were first submitted to QP on 22 November 2009 with Technip emerging as the frontrunner to win the deal (MEED 2:12:09).

Known as the ‘gas-sweetening project’, the scheme includes the construction of an acid-gas removal unit and an amine sweetening plant at Mesaieed.

The 750-million-cubic-feet-a-day (cf/d) plant will provide gas supplies to Qatar’s petrochemicals and power plants.

A second acid-gas removal unit will also be built at the onshore Dukhan field, with a capacity to process 450 cf/d of gas from the Khuff reservoir, which is part of the field.
