The project centres on expanding the capacity of the existing treatment plant to 140,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d) from 60,000 cm/d. The three-year contract also involves the construction of an inlet/outlet channel; the demolition of an existing sludge pumping station and replacement with a new combined stage pumping station; and the construction of a 23,000-cm/d balancing tank.
The successful bidder will undertake civils and electrical and mechanical services. The local KEO International Consultantsis the consultant.
Bids are also under evaluation for the Bneid al-Gar project in Kuwait City. Eleven companies submitted bids by early September for the contract, valued at KD 20 million-25 million ($66 million-83 million). The project calls for 13 kilometres of micro-tunnelling, replacement of existing lines and related works.
Bids for a third major sewerage scheme, the $60 million Eqaila project, are due to be submitted in mid-September following a one-week bid extension. The consultant for both Bneid al-Gar and Eqaila is a team of the US' Parsons Engineering Corporationwith the local Gulf Consult. The client on all three projects is the Ministry of Public Works.
