26 October 2001

A close contest is in store for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to supply and install two effluent water disposal units in southeast Kuwait (MEED 5:10:01; 7:9:01).

South Korea's Daelim Engineers & Construction Companyis the low bidder for the contract at KD 61.9 million ($199.3 million). The margin between its offer and the next price of KD 62.4 million ($201 million) quoted by LG Engineering & Construction, also of South Korea, is less than 1 per cent. Three contractors submitted bids by the 6 November deadline. The third bidder was South Korea's SK Engineering & Construction, which priced the contract at KD 85.4 million ($275 million).

The disposal plants will be located at Maqwa and Burgan, both onshore oil-producing fields. The 22-month contract includes pipeline installation and related civil works.

The consultant on the project is the US' Parsons Engineering Corporation, which also carried out the front-end engineering and design (FEED - MEED 10:8:01).
