Bids in for more China Town packages

Bids are under evaluation for three more major packages on the proposed China Town project to be built at Al-Warsan in Dubai. Up to eight groups of companies have submitted bids for each contract (MEED 6:6:03).

The largest package, worth AED 300 million ($82 million), is for the Chinamex mart. It covers the construction of a shopping mall and related facilities to be built in the shape of a dragon over 150,000 square metres and a 30,000-square-feet warehousing facility. The 12-month contract includes architectural, structural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works. The local Shahid Engineering Consultantis the consultant for the mart package.

The next package - Chinamex apartments-1 and worth AED 200 million ($54 million) - covers the construction of 13 buildings, each of four-five storeys, with a total built-up area of about 1.2 million square feet.

The last package, worth AED 180 million ($49 million), includes the construction of a further 12 apartment buildings, each of four-five storeys, with a total built-up area of about 1 million square feet.

Bidders for the two apartment packages include: United Engineering Company (UNEC), Al-Shafar General Transport & Contracting Company, Al-Moosa (Pioneer) Contractingand Associated Construction & Investments Company (Ascon), all local. The consultant for the apartment packages is Lebanon's Associated Consultants Engineers (ACE) International.

Bids are already under evaluation for the estimated AED 200 million ($54.4 million) infrastructure package. About eight companies are competing for the contract.

The client is Dubai-based Nakheel Corporation(MEED 9:5:03).
