The local United Engineering Construction (UNEC)is the low bidder for the contract involving the phase-two and three expansions of the Mushrif water reservoir complex in Dubai emirate (MEED 7:9:01).
UNEC's offer of AED 120 million ($32.6 million) is about 3.7 per cent lower than the next quote of AED 124 million ($33.8 million) from Obeidullah Contracting, also local. Twenty-two contractors priced the contract by the 9 October deadline.
The scope of works calls for the construction of two reinforced concrete reservoirs, with a capacity of 280,000 cubic metres each, a chlorination building, operations building and substation. The project has a construction period of about 20 months.
A further three reservoirs are planned at the site at a future date. The consultant is Athens-based Associated Consulting Engineers. The client is Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (MEED 10:8:01).
