20 October 2008
Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has received four bids for the contract to provide advisory services on two planned independent water and power projects (IWPP) in the country.

Bids were opened on 20 October. They were submitted by Bank Muscat, Ernst & Young, KPMG and Chadbourne & Parke.

A total of 23 companies had acquired the tender documents (MEED 14:10:08).

The successful consultants will provide advisory services for a planned 1,000MW greenfield IWPP at Duqm, which is likely to be be coal-fired, and a brownfield plant at Al-Ghubrah.

The latter involves adding new capacity to the Al-Ghubrah power and desalination plant. This will be done by splitting the site of the existing plant into two parts. The east part of the plant will continue to be owned by Al-Ghubrah Power and Desalination Company. The west part of the site together with existing facilities will be allocated to a new IWPP. The new plant will have a capacity of 500 MW of power and 25 million gallons a day of desalinated water (MEED 8:8:08).
