Three companies submitted bids on 10 August for the estimated $180 million Ritz Carlton hotel and apartment project at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Two other contractors declined to bid for the design and build contract. The client is the local Union Properties(MEED 13:5:05).
The bidders are the local/UK Al-Naboodah Laing O'Rourke, France's Bouyguesand Saudi Oger. The contract covers substructure, superstructure, finishings and landscaping for 12 clusters of buildings, which will contain about 350 rooms and 120 serviced apartments. The client had originally looked at breaking up the project into packages, with bids having been submitted for the substructure works in March. The lead consultant on the project is US-based Gensler Associates. The project manager is a joint venture of the local Edaraand APP. An award is also nearing for the contract to build the Gate Village in DIFC. Arabtec Constructionand Engineering Contracting Company (ECC), both local, are understood to be left in the running for the estimated $100 million scheme (MEED 27:5:05).
