Bids in for Saad al-Abdullah scheme

06 January 2006
Real Estate Construction & Fabrication Company (Recafco) and Kuwait Dynamics, both local, are low bidders for two contracts, totalling more than KD 50 million ($172 million), for the construction of houses and associated infrastructure on block 2 of the Saad al-Abdullah township project.

Following the opening of commercial bids on 19 December, Recafco is low bidder at KD 32.5 million ($112 million) for the larger of the two packages, covering the construction of 460 houses, public buildings such as mosques and schools and roads and sanitation systems. Its bid is marginally lower than the bid of KD 33 million ($114 million) submitted by the local Kuwait Company for Process Plant Construction & Contracting (KCPC). The local Combined Group is ranked third on price, at KD 34.7 million ($120 million).

For the second package, involving the construction of 321 houses, Kuwait Dynamics beat off competition from seven other local firms to submit a low bid of about KD 19 million ($66 million). The client, the Public Authority for Housing & Welfare, is expected to make an award early next year. Construction will take 33 months.
