Bids in for Salalah expansion

The Tender Board is evaluating technical proposals for the contract to provide design and construction supervision services for the expansion of Salalah port. The bidders are Omani Engineering Consultancy Companyand Ibn Khaldun, both local, Lebanon's Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners), the US' Han Padron Associates, the UK's Halcrow, the Indian/Danish L&T Ramboll Consulting Engineersand Environmental Civil Engineering Consulting Centreand Consulting Engineering Services, both of India.

The Tender Board is expected to take up to six weeks for the evaluation, after which commercial bids will be opened. The project, valued at $150 million, calls for the expansion of deepwater berths 5 and 6 and the extension of the existing eastern breakwater by a further 2.5 kilometres. Han Padron was the original consultant on the port, which is the sultanate's main container facility. Salalah Port Services Companymanages the existing port. The Transport & Communications Ministry is the client (MEED 31:10:03).
