Bids invited for Melen water supply system

The State Hydraulic Works has invited bids for contracts 1, 4, 6, and 10 in the Melen water supply system.

Contact 1 involves the construction of the Melen Weir and Melen-Cumhuriyet pumping stations. Bids are due in by 16 August. International companies participating in the tender include Italy's Ansaldo, Ebar Corporation, Kubota and Sumitomo Corporation and Hitachi Corporation, all of Japan.

Bids for contract 4 in the Japanese-financed scheme, to build the Alacali dam and conduit tunnels, are due in on 23 August. Bids for contact 6, involving the construction of the Cumhuriyet header tank-Kagithane transmission pipeline, must be submitted by11 August. The bidding deadline for contract 5, for the manufacture and supply of pipes, is 9 August.

The total cost of the first stage of the Melen system is estimated at $1,181 million. The project has been divided into 11 packages. The system is the main part of the Greater Istanbul water supply project (MEED 14:4:00).
