Bids invited for township dredging

26 November 2002

The Works & Housing Ministry has invited bids by 4 January for the dredging, reclamation and installation of shoreline protection at Busaitin and west Hidd. Four dredgers are expected to submit offers. They are Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of the US, Dredging International and Jan de Nul, both of Belgium, and Royal Boskalis Westminster Group of the Netherlands.

The scope of works entails the dredging of 16 million cubic metres and 13 million cubic metres of sand fill respectively at Busaitin and west Hidd. Both sites, which are to be developed into new townships, will also require extensive shoreline protection works. Contractors have been requested to submit two separately priced offers and one combined offer in their final bids. Total project costs are estimated at BD 35 million ($92 million).
