Bids opened for Ashbiliya infrastructure contract

05 December 2003
A close contest is in store for the contract to carry out major infrastructure works at Ashbiliya, at the intersection of the sixth ring-road and the Ghazali expressway (MEED 21:11:03).

The local House of Trade has submitted a low bid of KD 11 million ($36.5 million), about 1 per cent cheaper than the next price of KD 11.1 million ($36.8 million) offered by Burhan International Contracting Company, also local. Nine local companies submitted bids by the mid-November deadline.

The contract calls for the construction of: internal roads, using a total of 200,000 tonnes of asphalt; over 40 kilometres of stormwater drainage; streetlighting; and more than 100 kilometres of ducting and cable-laying. The facilities will take about 30 months to complete. The client is the Ministry of Public Works.
