Bids opened for Pars polystyrene

The UK's SembCorp Simon-Carves, in partnership with the local Oil Industries Engineering Company (OIEC),is the low bidder for a polystyrene plant planned at Pars Petrochemical Company (PPC)in the Pars Special Economic Zone at Assaluyeh. The project will have capacity of 250,000 tonnes a year (t/y).

The two other bidders for the project are South Korea's Daelim Industrial Companyand Italy's Snamprogetti. The client, National Petrochemical Company (NPC), has not yet officially selected a preferred bidder. The plant's output will comprise 200,000 t/y of general-purpose polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene and 50,000 t/y of expandable polystyrene.

PPC already has a 600,000-t/y styrene plant, built by Snamprogetti. Propane and butane units, of 980,000 t/y and 570,000 t/y respectively, are also planned at the complex, which will provide feedstock for downstream polymer units, electrical industries, insulation polystyrene, adhesives, textiles and disposable products.
