Bids studied for UAE connection

Bids are under evaluation for the contract to connect the local grid with the UAE network following the submission of quotes from five local contractors. The client is the Ministry of Housing, Electricity & Water.

The companies submitted a main bid and, in most cases, alternative offers. For the main bid, Al-Hassan Engineeringis the low bidder at RO 9.6 million ($24.6 million), followed by Galfar Engineering & Contractingat RO 10.3 million ($26.4 million).

The contract calls for the supply and installation of a 220-kV substation at Al-Wasit, the extension of an existing 132-kV substation at Buraimi and the supply and installation of a 220-kilometre transmission line from Al-Wasit to Al-Ain in the UAE. Belgrade-based Energoprojektis the consultant.

Construction of the UAE-Oman link is a key element in the 20-year plan to establish a GCC-wide power grid. Bids are under evaluation at the UAE Ministry of Electricity & Water for seven packages on the project to establish an Emirate-wide grid (MEED 10:10:03).
