Speaking at the GCC Infrastructure & Finance conference in London, the chief executive officer of Ras Abu Fontas, Dr Abdulsattar Al Rashid, revealed that all developers with ownership stakes in private power plants in Qatar, including QEWC, were asked to bid by 22 September. An award is expected in June 2012 and the plant is due to come online in April 2015.

It is expected that the new plant will use MSF technology harnessing thermal output from the existing power station.

In July, QEWC was awarded the $1.5bn 1500MW Sur IPP in Oman with partner Japan’s Marubeni. It is also bidding for projects in Jordan and Dubai and is looking at further projects in the GCC and the US.
