Bids submitted for Saadiyat resort

15 February 2009
The local Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) has received bids from five companies for the estimated AED1.5bn ($409m) contract to build the St. Regis resort on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat island.

The bidders are the local Alec, the local/Australian Al-Habtoor Leighton, the local Arabtec Construction, Dubai-based Dutco Balfour Beatty, and South Africa’s Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East).

TDIC had received bids from Alec and Arabtec for the project last year but elected to issue a fresh tender in November (MEED 21:1:09).

The project involves the construction of a hotel with 380 rooms and other residential buildings. The total built-up area is about 200,000 square metres.

The project manager is South Africa's Mirage Mille. Australia's Woods Bagot is the concept architect.
