Bids under study for Abu Dhabi corniche extension

04 October 2002

Bids are under evaluation for the second-phase contract on the Abu Dhabi corniche extension project. Four companies submitted prices for the contract by the 30 September deadline (MEED 30:8:02).

The local Al-Muhairy General Contracting Company submitted a low bid of AED 590.2 million ($161 million). Its offer is about 8 per cent lower than the next quote of AED 637.2 million ($174 million) submitted by ADMAK General Contracting Company, also local.

The scope of works includes extending the corniche by about six kilometres behind the Sheraton hotel towards Mina Zayed and the construction of three underpasses. The two-year contract also includes the construction of eight pedestrian ways, parks and related works.

Turkey's BM Engineering & Construction Company is carrying out work on the first-phase extension of Abu Dhabi corniche under an estimated AED 180 million ($49 million) contract.

The 18-month contract, which covers a 200-metre extension, includes 6.5 million cubic metres of dredging and about 2 kilometres of asphalting and road works.

The consultant is the US' De Leuw Cather International. The client is Abu Dhabi Municipality.
