Seven local companies submitted bids by the mid-August deadline. UGCC's offer was about 8 per cent lower than the next quote of KD 12.3 million ($41 million) offered by Burhan International Contracting Company.
The 33-month project calls for the construction of a three-storey building, a car park and infrastructure works. It also includes dredging and backfilling.
The facilities, to be built over 30,000 square metres, will take about 33 months to complete. The consultant is a team of the local Gulf Consult with the US-based Cambridge 7.
The client is Kuwait University, which plans more work. A contract award is due for a project to build two two-storey buildings, a car park and related works for a college of arts at Shuwaikh. The local Syed Hamid Behbehani is the low bidder at KD 4.3 million ($14 million) for the 16-18 month contract. The consultant is the local Bonyan Consultant(MEED 25:7:03).
