The local/UK BK Gulf has been awarded the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract for the $1,500 million Atlantis resort located on the crescent of Palm Jumeirah. Valued at more than $100 million, the package covers all MEP works on the development (MEED 20:1:06).

The contract is the latest major award on the project. The local/UK Al-Naboodah Laing O'Rourke was awarded the AED 283 million ($77 million) concrete structure package in early 2006. Bids are also due to be submitted imminently for a structural steel package for the bridge suite between the resort's two hotel buildings and the convention centre roof. Tenders are expected by June for a civils package covering all deep services.

Laing is providing construction management services; Canada's NORR Group Consultants International is the design, structural, mechanical and electrical consultant; and the UK's K Home International is providing project management services. A joint venture of Bahamas-based Kerzner International and the local Istithmar is the client.
