Black Cat wins Qatar Petroleum contract

03 February 2008

The local Black Cat Engineering & Construction has won a QR348m ($95m) contract to install a smokeless flare and automatic blow-down system for Qatar Petroleum at its Fahahil gas stripping plant.

Under the terms of the 26-month engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) contract, Black Cat will design, supply and install the blow-down system, which is used to detect and put out fires.

The project includes the installation of a new flash gas compressor to avoid flaring of flash gas and the elimination of the existing burn pit by diverting all existing streams to a new smokeless flare and drain system.

The work also covers the design, supply and installation of a new control room at the facility, which is used to recover natural gas liquids from associated gas.
