Bloom time for Sembcorp

Singapore's Sembcorp Industrieshas been awarded the main construction package for phase 1 of the Mediterranean Gardens project on the Gardens of Discovery development. The contract, which is estimated at AED 482 million ($131 million), calls for the construction of 36 buildings providing 2,700 apartments and commercial and retail facilities. The project is scheduled to be complete by July 2006.

The client, Dubai-based property developer Nakheel, is also evaluating bids from four companies for the Mediterranean Gardens phase 2 contract.

Companies have also been invited to bid by 14 November for the contract to build residential units for the Mogul Gardens phase in the Gardens of Discovery.

The project is divided into two packages, both valued at about AED 400 million ($108 million). Mogul 1 calls for the construction of 26 residential buildings with shopping and leisure facilities. Similar in scope, Mogul 2 will cover around 2 million square feet. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-2006 (MEED 15:10:04).

The local Al-Naboodah Engineering Services is carrying out the infrastructure contract for the entire project. Located between interchanges five and six on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed highway, the Gardens of Discovery will cover 420,000 square metres and include six themed residential areas with various horticultural themes (MEED 17:9:04).
