The Abu Dhabi-based airline plans to break even in 2012

The US’ Boeing has delivered a 777 freighter plane to Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Crystal Cargo.

Etihad Crystal Cargo, the cargo division of Etihad Airways, currently has a fleet of seven 777 planes, the world’s longest-range, twin-engine freighter aircraft.

“With its proven track record, long-range capabilities and excellent operating efficiencies, the 777 freighter will allow us to economically deliver cargo further than ever before,” says Kevin Knight, chief planning and strategy officer at Etihad and head of the Crystal Cargo division.

Etihad Airways achieved revenues of $2.9bn in 2010 (MEED 12:1:11). In terms of cargo, revenues increased 57.4 per cent compared to 2009 figures. Etihad took delivery of two Airbus freight aircraft and started a new cargo route to Beijing.

The airline is aiming to break even in 2011 and achieve profitability in 2012.
