Bomb blast kills four

05 December 2003
At least four Iraqis and a US soldier were killed on 5 December in a roadside bombing in central Baghdad, announced local police. The men were killed when a bomb exploded as a US military convoy passed through a busy street, policeman Sami Hadi told Reuters. The Iraqi men were travelling in a mini bus travelling the opposite direction. About 16 Iraqis were injured in the incident. US military officials said that they had no immediate information about the attack, but that they were investigating it.

The latest US death brings to 304 the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq since US President Bush declared an end to major combat operations on 1 May. US Department of Defence figures show that 189 have died as a result of hostile action, and 114 of non-hostile causes.
