Bryan Stirewalt

Biography: Bryan Stirewalt was appointed managing director of supervision at DFSA, the regulatory body for the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), in September 2010.

He primarily supervises banks and insurance firms. He also coordinates the DFSA’s efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing within DIFC. This work involves close cooperation with local, regional and international counterparts.

Stirewalt has spent most of his working life in the financial regulatory sector, in both public and private sector roles. He worked for 11 years at the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a national bank examiner, where he specialised in policy development and implementation, problem bank rehabilitation and banking fraud initiatives.

He later worked for 12 years as a management consultant in the US, focusing on emerging markets.
