Prequalifiers for Burj Dubai have been informed that they will be given two months to prepare bids for the contract, which, in addition to the construction of the 705-metre-high tower, covers a podium, aquatic features, pedestrian boulevards and car parks.
Piling is well under way on Burj Dubai, while the award of the 3.7-metre-thick raft foundation package is imminent. The US' Turner Internationalis the project manager for Burj Dubai; the architectural design consultant is the US' Skidmore Owings & Merrill.
Bids for the shopping complex, known as the Dubai Mall, are now due to be submitted by 4 May. Prequalifiers are understood to include the local/UK Al-Naboodah Laing, the local/ South African venture of Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprisesand Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East), Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company, the local/Australian Nasa Multiplexand Saudi Binladin Group.
The contract, valued at $600 million-700 million, involves the construction of the world's biggest shopping mall, together with a district cooling plant, external works and services. It will also cover the construction of a major aquarium, a skating rink and parking for 15,000 cars.
CCSME, a subsidiary of Australia's Clifton Coney Group, is the project manager on the prestigious mall development. Meinhardt Singaporeis acting as consultant.
