SNC-Lavalin will build three substations at the Meydan One development

Canada’s  SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a $70m contract to provide engineering and procurement services for three substations at the Meydan One development in Dubai.

The 132/11kV substations will be built for local developer Meydan Group at the Mahra, Jeyad and Forsan communities at Meydan One.

SNC-Lavalin says it will undertake the full design and delivery of all three gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substations, including the civil design and delivery of three two-storey buildings, all electrical equipment and electro-mechanical works. The substations are expected to be energised in late 2019.

When completed, Meydan One will be home to 83,000 people and the substations will form the key component of the electrical infrastructure of the development.

In additional to residential properties, a large shopping mall is also being built. In March 2017, Italy’s Salini Impregilo secured a $435m contract to build the first phase of the mall.
