Canadians take Wimax work in Tunisia

11 January 2008
Canada’s Redline Communications has won a contract to install new Wimax technology infrastructure in five Tunisian cities. The client is Divona Telecom, a local satellite and Wimax telecom provider. According to Redline, its products were chosen following a three-month trial period involving several Wimax vendors.

Divona Telecom said that deploying the new infrastructure will increase the capacity and reliability of the existing network. The $1million project will be carried out in phases over two years and will link Tunis, Nabeul, Sousa, Monastir and Sfax. Divona Telecom’s Wimax network already serves hundreds of corporations.

The announcement came as neighbouring Libya awarded China’s ZTE the contract to build a high-speed wireless broadband network using Wimax technology. The network will be available in 8 cities across the country.
